During the prekindergarten years, children make connections between listening, speaking, reading and writing. These connections form the foundation of effective communication and help young learners realize that printed and spoken words are interrelated. The ELAR section of the Pre-K Outcomes Framework incorporates outcomes from the Language and Communication, Emergent Literacy-Reading, and Emergent Literacy-Writing Domains of the Texas Prekindergarten Guidelines.
